Schedule for Machine Maintenance
Machines can never be unplugged or turned off

Machine Maintenance Guides

Machines have to be maintained due to the nature of the equipment. This equipment is meant to be used 24 hours a day 7 days a week in a printing facility. Due to the way our program operates, we have a slightly different schedule to keep the machines operational and healthy.

All machines must be cleaned weekly.
Cleaning includes (1) emptying of overflow tank, (2) ink replacement, (3) machine clean maintenance settings, (4) manual cleaning by the staff, (5) straightening up around the machine, and wiping down the body of the machine.
  1. All machines must have the overflow tank emptied regularly, but it might vary from machine to machine. Watch for settings, but also look inside the overflow tank. Empty as needed.
  2. Ink has to be replaced as it is empty, so watch for ink to be used down to empty. At 25% you are to check for backup ink and place an order as needed. At 10% you are to watch the job to verify that will be enough ink to complete the job without damaging materials. Replace ink only when the machine tells you to replace the ink. NO MACHINE CAN EVER BE EMPTY OF INK FOR MORE THAN 30 MINUTES.
  3. Digital clean settings on each machine will allow you to run cleanings at varied levels without doing a manual clean. This is what you use to make sure the heads are running full capacity, clean heads.
  4. Manual cleans are to be done after a large run of printing or at least weekly without fail. Cleaning is imperative and must be done in order to make a machine operate at its best ability. Not cleaning a machine is costly and time consuming for the printshop. Manual Cleans often include replacing parts and fluids within your machine. Be sure to watch for alerts and clear them once replacement work is complete.
  5. General cleaning includes wiping down the machine, picking up and straightening the area around the machine, running any test prints as needed, checking stock or ordering inks for machines.

All machines much have a monthly maintenance check.
Not all machines are used weekly therefore we check out the machines more thoroughly each month. The maintenance guide for each machine will show you what specifically needs to be changed or addressed. The machine maintenance messages that pop up on the machines must be addressed at the time of alert. Be sure to clear the messages as you complete the work.

When we have holiday breaks, machines must be serviced no further than two days prior to leaving for the break.
Check each machine throughly, clean the machine, set it in proper modes for non-operational use, empty the waste containers even if they are not full, and order any materials that need to be added to the machine upon return. Work with your supervisor on this process as long term lack of use can damage a machine.

Note: summer shut-down looks different and will be handled more meticulously than any cleaning all year. The machines will need to be ready for a outsourced company to handle the machines for the two months we are away. All materials need to be available to keep the machines serviced by someone outside of our team of staff.
All machines have different rules for cleaning and maintenance, however the general rules apply such as timelines and what is to be cleaned.
